How Expensive is SEO?

All things considered – time and money, how expensive is SEO? It’s an important thing to understand because there are many SEO companies that charge top dollar for ranking your site. And let me tell you something, this business is far from honest. So my SEO tips for today are about how to determine the cost of SEO.

To get started, you have to evaluate the competition. And I’m not talking about the number of competing pages, I’m talking about the number of high quality backlinks your competitors have. You see, SEO is all about high quality backlinks, that what costs most, either directly buying links or getting them via other means. They are never cheap.

So to find high quality backlinks of your competitors you can use Yahoo! site explorer coupled with SEO plugin for FireFox. The links with PR>0 are the quality links I’m talking about – they are usually at the top. Alternativelly and for better results you can use SEO tools like Market Samurai to get a breakdown of PR.

Then it’s a matter of calculating the cost of attaining high PR links. Consider that a link with PR3 and less may cost up to $50, PR4 around $100, PR5 may cost a few hundreds, and higher links may cost even thousands. Do your math, and you will be able to assess the cost of SEO for your keywords.
